Welcome to Chinatown Community Development Center's
Youth Program!

Our youth-run, youth led programs at Chinatown Community Development Center's provide youth applied leadership skills, team-building, and communication opportunities. Through our youth programs, students gets to immerse themselves as leaders using Chinatown as their classroom.

Please refer to the "Programs" tab for more information on our various programs and service events, such as Super Sunday, tenant services, and more. With the youth leading they can positively impact Chinatown.

Adopt An Alleyway

Founded in 1991 by Reverend Norman Fong and other high school students, Adopt An Alleyway aims to beautify Chinatown's alleyways. Until recently, AAA's members participated in cleaning up Chinatown's many alleyways, however, through the youth program's advocacy, Chinatown's alleyways are now considered public property, hence, government officials are now responsible for cleaning the alleyways. Since then, AAA has expanded to include various service and learning opportunities with Chinatown's elderly community and younger children from low-income families.

Chinatown Alleyway Tours

CATs is a youth led program in which students are paid and trained to become Chinatown tour guides. Through this program, youths research the rich history of Chinatown to educate tourists and community members about the daily life and modern day issues of Chinatown. Tour guides also get the chance to learn marketing strategies in order to gain popularity for their tours.

Youth for Single Room Occupancy

Beginning in 2006, YSRO was founded and is the sister program of AAA. Single Room Occupancy, also known as SRO's, were developed during the California Gold Rush as a temporary living solution for gold miners. However, this form of housing has remained to this day, providing a more affordable living situation for the elderly. SRO's often contain one room, and residents share other living facilities. Thus, YSRO was formed to help the elderly in these living situations and assist them in adapting to the changing atmosphere of San Francisco.
