Today was a busy day as well. We went off early in the morning for Columbia University and explored some of the buildings. Then, we had a tour in Chinatown. Something that I learned was that the Columbus Park looked very similar to SF Chinatown’s Portsmouth Square Park. The elderly seniors, mostly men, were playing in cards and talking to one another. The community they built there is very similar to one another and it is nice to see something so heartwarming. The tour also talked about controversial issues and the sides taken by both parties.
When the tour ended, our tour guide recommended us to try this ice cream store, which was a family owned business, The Original Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, and is running for over thirty years. She told us that the flavors in the store were very unique and should definitely try. It indeed had so many out of ordinary flavors such as ginger, durian, sesame, and don tot. I personally chose the ginger flavor, which may seem quite gross and spicy, but it was actually sweet and tasty. -Angela Iao
