As a group, we were given the opportunity to visit the San Francisco Bay Area Planning and Urban Research Association. I have passed this space many times as it is on Market Street, but I never knew what it was. Upon entering, I was just amazed at how beautiful and spacious their workplace is. I really enjoyed being in this space and could definitely see how creativity can flow in such a pleasing environment. After hearing a brief history of their organization, we were given the chance to give our thoughts regarding four scenarios of future societies that their team had created. It is such a mind-provoking thought that our society can morph into any four of the scenarios with the passage and implementation of certain policies. I also did not know that this organization was behind the yearly voter guide that I have read in the past. At the end of this presentation, we were given their events calendar and I am interested in attending at least one event in the future in order to check out their work in a different environment. An upcoming event that interests me is their “Fifty Years of Public Art in SF” lunchtime forum. I have not yet had a chance to check out the art in the Moscone Center, so perhaps this will be a great opportunity to do so. Overall, I enjoyed this day and I walked away more mindful that our actions today have great impact on the future ahead...whether that be positive or negative, it is up to us as a collective society to strive towards a more sustainable and inclusive future.
