For week 3 of UI we initially met Deland for the initial part of the day were learned about the field of urban planning. We were introduced to the history of urban planning through examples throughout history. We learned about the necessity of knowing the community that you were serving before implementing anything. Then later in the conducted a field work activity, where we went out throughout Chinatown, observing the community around us. During this observational activity, we decided to observe in locations that had a higher concentration of locals (Stockton and Portsmouth). We were able to observe how pockets of the community were interacting with each other, with us not being too big of a disturbance within their environment (with exception being in Portsmouth, we were approached by an elderly gentleman). Later the next week we had a sit-down with some of the board-members of Chinatown TRIP, we learned about the history of the formation of the group as well as their political influence when it comes to their voting power. Later that day we went on the City hall dome tour and learned about the history of the construction of City Hall.
