Week three

7/6/2019

As it was a shortened week, we only had Urban Institute on Tuesday. This meant that we only had one main activity. In the afternoon, we went outside and completed activities related to urban planning. Using the handbook provided, we used our different senses to carry out the activities, such as counting how many people crossed an intersection, noticing different noises around the Chinatown area, and planning out how things are sketched out in specific places. Personally, I thought that it was a really interesting activity, because I’ve never really noticed the details Chinatown possesses. Every time I walk through Chinatown, I’m always in a rush trying to get to Wo Hei Yuen. However, this time I was able to notice my surroundings and become more aware of what is happening around the area.

This activity was also a bit uncomfortable and awkward, because people were staring while I recorded my findings. I found it fairly intimidating, because I didn’t know how to deal with certain situations. for example, sometimes people would approach me and stare, and i would not know what to do.
